Daeng Duad Frog Clip

Daeng Duad Frog Clip undressed with no frog

Item name: Daeng Duad Frog Clip (กบแดงเดือด)

Item type: Steel frog clips.

Sizes: Double hook and double double hook.

Price: B120

Description: One problem I have with fishing soft frog lures in Thailand is teeth. Giant snakeheads and striped snakeheads, the primary lure fishing targets of Thailand, have sharp teeth and have a habit of destroying most soft-baits after a single fight. This is especially true for the giant snakeheads that come with two rows of teeth, one for gripping and the second for ripping. With this aggression, most soft-bodied frogs will either be ripped from the teeth or ripped from the hook from the shaking.

Another problem is that these fish generally like to bite at the back end of the frog lure missing the hook and tearing the legs off before the angler has time to lower the rod to set the hook.

With the Daeng Duad frog clip these problems are mostly solved. The metal clip keeps the entire frog in place with a single bolt through the middle of the frog. What this does is that it locks the frog in to the hook at its thickest point while standard offset hooks will put require the head and the body of the frog to be pierced.

Below the entire clip is a lead sinker the keeps the frog swimming bottom side down (as it should) while adding a decent amount of casting distance.

The double Owner hooks hang conveniently right above the frog from behind making the hookset much easier. The hooks also comes with very effective weed guards the easily rival and may even beat your standard Scum Frogs.

For the paranoid, these frog clips also come in the double-double hook variety. These clips add an additional pair of Owner hooks to the back, you know, just in case the fish has no depth perception.

Daeng Duad Frog Clips with Ribbit Frog

From top: Daeng Duad with two double hooks and white Ribbit frog, the naked Daeng Duad Frog Clip and at the bottom is a black Ribbit Frog.

One problem with the frog clip I have found is that it does not work well with all soft plastic frogs. Certain brands like the Bass Pro Shops Frog makes the lure lose balance resulting in the lure swimming upside down while big frog lures like the Strike King Rage Tail is just too big to fit into the clip. What has worked best so far are the readily available Ribbit Frogs.

IN A NUTSHELL

  • The frog clip protects the soft-bait frog from teeth damage and ripping damage better than traditional hooking methods.
  • The double hook hanging off the back greatly improves hookset.
  • The lead sinker keeps the frog swimming properly while adding casting distance.
  • The Daeng Duad frog clip works best with frogs like the Ribbit Frogs.
